Gotta love it, but you get more flavors, too, like “curry” and other things.

Didn’t know King Burger was named different down under. The hamburger was ok.

Charging for ketchup, that's so anti-American of them lol. I could never imagine going to a US fast food chain in Europe. There are so many better local options! But I guess it could feel like you are in a US embassy or something. Mc Donalds in Vienna is such a classy place, never feels like the ghetto that many of the US based ones do.

Where’s that? I’ve never heard of anywhere that charges for condiments.

I believe McD does in the Netherlands and possibly in Germany.

That’s a BK in Budapest. Every country I’ve been in Europe charges ketchup by the pack. England, Germany, France, they all charged for Ketchup by the pack.

Yeah, McDonalds outside the US are quite fancy. I’ve only been in a few ones in the US, but they all seemed a little dated on the inside.

Honestly, I only visit one of those (usually American) fast food places when there’s no alternative. Which is very rare, maybe once or twice a year.

Having said, there was one time I was very happy to find a McDonalds. I had visited Barcelona, Spain, and on the last full day my friends and I went for diner in a restaurant run by people from India (not a negative by itself at all) with menus that had large pictures of the meals (red flag!). I, for some reason, ordered Paella (Spanish sea food). It was a mistake I came to regret an hour or so later and which lasted the entire night. And the next morning, and the rest of the day had I not taken some kind of drug that closed everything up temporarily. When we went to the airport that afternoon McDonalds was my savior. Their plastic food is so standardized everywhere I knew very little could go wrong.

That’s unusual. I’ve never paid for additional packets. Did you by chance ask how much for more as opposed to just asking for more?

It is especially apparent if you go to one in an Urban setting. Somewhere like NYC outside of Midtown will just be a very uh, "interesting" experience haha.

It is definitely a problem when you have to eat Mc Donalds in order to ensure you have food that won't make you poop yourself! Yeah that definitely makes sense. I generally consider a place like McD's when I just want a meal for less than $3. McDouble and fries is just a great combo for a quick snack (was much better before they took them off the dollar menu though).

News to me. I rarely go to fast food places and when I do they dole out packets of sauce ad lib and free.

I don’t either, which I why I’m not sure. I try to avoid the place like the plague, but while on a road trip or something like that it sometimes is either McD or a plastic wrapped sandwich in a gas station store.

A few of the McDonald’s in NYC were nice when I went there. The one on Times Square makes your head spin though. They have to have about 10 or 15 cashiers.

Last year when I was in Germany for 1.5 weeks, I decided to try out a McD’s once while I was there, just to see how it differed. (I never eat at McD’s, except for the occasional coffee drink) It was interesting, but also the worst meal of the trip (not that it was terrible or anything, but all of the other meals I ate were fantastic).

In my admittedly limit abroad travels the biggest attractions to US fast food chains is that I already know the options and won’t be in for a surprise. Local restaurants may have the same name for foods but the end result is vastly different.

Yeah I am talking about the ones in seedier neighborhoods in NY. Where you walk in, it is filled with homeless people, its not clean at all, and you just feel unsafe in the store. But yeah I know which Times Square one you are talking about, I have seen the line out the door lol.

That’s weird, I’ve lived in the UK all my life and I don’t think I’ve ever been charged for a packet of sauce at a fast food place. They practically throw them at you at McDonalds Drive-Thrus, and inside the ‘restaurant’ they've got dispenser pumps.

No, for example in McDonalds when buying the food they ask you:

“Would you like ketchup or mustard pack?”

If you say yes, they will charge you right away for that.

I remember in the UK there was this cool McDonalds near Picadilly Circus where there was this Ketchup dispenser pump. I used to frequent that one because of that pump.

I think they've all got those now—or, at least, all the McDonalds I've been in for the last few years. One pump for ketchup, and another for barbecue.

I don’t really remember anymore what was on the menu, I just remember that there was a different selection of burgers than found on the US menu. Seems like they were doing some sort of promotion for the World Cup at the time, so they had several burgers that were influenced by food from various countries participating in the World Cup, like a Brazil burger, etc.

A big plop of ‘Murica in the middle of something so European.

Plus I’m pretty sure they had to get deliveries via canal.

When I was there in 2002 all combo meals were 5.90 Euro.
